FOLLOWING the news yesterday (Monday, 3 March) a second Thurrock Primary School has notified parents they may have a connection with a person who has contracted coronavirus.

Mr Eugene Samuel, head of Purfleet Primary Academy, has written to parents today informing them that a member of an external service that works at the school has presented with a symptom.

That person is currently self-isolated. Public Health England have said there is little risk to children and staff and their advice was not to close the school.

Mr Samuel says: "At Purfleet Primary Academy our number one priority is the well-being of our pupils and staff.

"We recognise this is a worrying time for everyone, but I wanted to reassure you that we will continue to follow the advice and guidance issued by Public Health England and we will remain in close contact with you."

Despite that message, Thurrock Nub News understands a few parents have withdrawn their children from school.

Today Bonnygate Primary in South Ockendon was closed for a deep clean after a parent of a child at the school was found to have contracted the virus while on holiday. The school will reopen tomorrow.
