LOCAL non-League action concentrates on the Isthmian North today (Saturday, 15 October) as Premier Division Aveley are without a fixture.

However, despite losing somewhat surprisingly at Carshalton last Monday, the Millers will still end today in the promotion zone as they cannot be overhauled this weekend.

It was a busy midweek for Millers. Shortly after announcing the departure of keeper David Hughes, the club revealed that his boots will be filled by Jonathan North who joins Aveley from National South side Slough Town.

North joined Slough in the summer of 2021 and made 48 appearances in all competitions, keeping six clean sheets in the league, and helping The Rebels to a 13th placed finish.

Jonathan North.

Prior to that he was a club legend at National League side Wealdstone where he made more than 400 appearances across 10 years, earning himself a testimonial in August 2021.

While Millers remain static in the league Grays, though, could make an upwards move in the North division and nip in above their visitors Felixstowe and Walton United who sit in second place, just one point above the Blues.

Felixstowe have yet to taste defeat in the league from their seven matches to date and will undoubtedly test Lewis Dark's side.

Tilbury are also at home and face an equally tough proposition from visiting Bury Town.

The Suffolk side are fourth in the table and will be smarting from last week's home defeat at the hands of East Thurrock United..

Tilbury have dropped from being early season play-off contenders and a run of league defeats sees them perilously close to the drop zone so manager John Coventry will be hoping for a moral-boosting performance.

There were encouraging signs in last week's defeat against table-topping and unbeaten Lowestoft so there will be some optimism among Dockers fans.

East Thurrock United make another long journey after last week's trek to Bury and will be hoping for a similar outcome when they go to Wroxham.
