ESSEX senior men, featuring many players from Thurrock and coaches by Tees' Martin Jones, went down to a 27-21 defeat in yesterday's (Saturday, 18 May) clash against Sussex in the Bill Beaumont County Championship.

An interception try by Sussex made the difference but Essex did come away with a losing bonus point. They will be back in action next Saturday at Thurrock for a match against Gloucestershire (2pm ko).
