OCTOBER'S annual BATA Heritage Centre open day will take place again, this year on Saturday, 12 October, in East Tilbury.

The open day, a reflection on the philanthropic work of BATA and the community that grew around its shoe factory, will include tours around the factory off Princess Margaret Road - and visits to the heritage centre, based at the village library on Princess Avenue (RM18 8ST).

Guided tours of the BATA estate depart the factory at 10.30 and 11.15am and 12.15pm. the cost is £5.

A BATA heritage talk will take place at the library at 1.30pm.
