A MAN who hit two people with his car following an argument outside a pub in Orsett has been convicted.

JJ Margetts had gone into the Foxhounds in High Road shortly before 2pm on Saturday, 26 October 2019 but was told to leave by staff and barred following an incident.

Three people inside the pub helped staff get 34 year-old Margetts to leave.

Around 15 minutes later, Margetts returned to the pub alone, went back inside and began to argue with the man and who had helped staff earlier.

The argument moved outside where Margetts got into his car and struck the man and woman, clipping the man's leg but sending the woman onto the bonnet and windscreen, into another parked car and then onto the floor where she lost consciousness.

She was taken to hospital and received a treatment for a cut to her head, broken fingers, bruising, an cuts to her arms and stomach.

The man who was hit sustained bruising to his right thigh.

When police officers arrived at Margetts' home address in Whitmore Avenue, Grays at around 12.30am the following day, they found Margetts' car damaged with the wing mirror on the driver's side hanging off.

CCTV showed him getting into his vehicle and driving along High Road.

He was arrested and later charged.

Following a trial at Basildon Crown Court, he was found guilty yesterday of GBH without intent, ABH, and dangerous driving.

He is due to be sentenced at the same court in August.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Owen Clements, from Grays CID, said: "JJ Margetts put those he struck with his car in danger and it is fortunate their injuries were not more serious.

"His driving was reckless and endangered those around him.

"I hope this conviction will help the people he injured move forward."
