RESIDENTS in an area of Chadwell St Mary have expressed concern about the toxicity and source of patches of white powder that have been laid on footpaths and open spaces near their homes.

A significant number of patches of the white powder appeared yesterday (Tuesday, 29 March) in Cole Avenue - and it appears to be some sort of poison.

A dead rat, covered in the powder, has been discovered next to one of the patches.

The substance has been reported to Thurrock Council's environmental team by one residcent, who told Nub News: "We have several piles of white powder all along the grass verge and along the street. There also a dead rat covered in this white powder on the grass verge.

"I suspect it is fresh poison dumped this morning and I've reported to Thurrock Council but I'm not convinced they are in a hurry to investigate."

Cllr Sara Muldowney said: "I have contacted the council about the powder found on Cole Avenue and asked them to investigate.

"This is obviously very worrying for the residents of Cole Avenue, many of whom are pet owners."

Nub News has also informed the council and will report on any updates received.
