That's the unanimous verdict of Thurrock Council planning committee members who tonight (Thursday, 2 December) decided the wall around a home on Second Avenue would have to do – despite a welter of public comment supporting the build.

A MAN wanted by the Belgian authorities for his role in a people smuggling plot that led to the discovery of the bodies of 39 people in a lorry in West Thurrock has had his extradition ordered.

Vietnamese national Alex Tran, 18, was detained by National Crime Agency officers at a supermarket petrol station near Middlesbrough on 17 June this year.

A MILLION pound cash injection will be a boost for arts and culture in Thurrock over the next three years.

The Tilbury on the Thames Trust, supported by the Port of Tilbury and in partnership with Thurrock CVS, the Royal Opera House, Thurrock Lifestyle Solutions CIC and Thurrock Council have secured a £1 million grant on behalf of Thurrock as part of the Arts Council England's Creative People and Places National Portfolio 2022-25 programme.

Successful objection: Cllr Adam Carter and resident Michelle Hull

PLANS to demolish a home in Chadwell St Mary and replace it with three apartments were unanimously rejected by Thurrock Council's planning committee this evening (Thursday, 2 December).

The applicant had been recommended for refusal by officers and after emotional appeals from ward councillor Adam Carter and resident Michelle Hull the plan for 2 Morant Road was thrown out.

PLANS to knock down a large, empty five-bedroom disability-adapted house in Chadwell St Mary and replace it with four new council houses have been approved.

Tonight's (Thursday, 2 December) meeting of Thurrock Council's planning committee debated the long-running application to demolish the home on Loewen Road and councillors voted by a majority of five to three to support it.

Barking won 5-4 on penalties GRAYS bowed out of the Isthmian League's Velocity Trophy in the second round on a night (Wednesday, 1 December) that won't live long in the memory at Parkside. Just 86 turned up to watch the tie but they found little to entertain them on a cold night with chances at a premium in a match that ended goalless. In the ensuing penalty shoot-out the first eight penalties for each side were converted but when Kai Brown missed Grays' fifth, the door was open to the next round for Barking and they converted their final kick to go through.
