SATURDAY 8 May's rains coincided with the first day of league cricket all over Essex.

Cancellations for all the other Belhus CC teams except the Belhus 2s who were at North Stifford playing against Westcliff CC.

While the strip was protected by rain covers, there was work to be done by groundsmen and volunteers on the outfield to get the seconds' match on. With a delayed start, the number of overs were reduced from 40 to 28.

Belhus CC 2s batted first with solid performances from Adam Dudmish 44 and Jack Plane 30, Jack being unfortunate to be run out.

Belhus 2s took to the field after tea to defend 158. Impressive bowling performances from young guns, Fairweather, Overy and Philpot kept the Westcliff CC score low with 'live wire' Roy Heffernan taking three wickets and a catch in the field from Belhus Bowler Saaed. A tense finish in the last over with Belhus 2s edging it to emerge victorious by one run.

Belhus 1s are at home this Saturday, May 15th, in the Essex Premier League v Chingford
