A THURROCK man has paid a seasonal tribute to the work of the caring services in Thurrock and at Basildon Hospital for the way they have helped his mother – who passed away two days before Christmas.

Despite his grief, Ian Percival wanted to say thank-you to all those who helped look after his mum Sheila, who was 86 when she passed away, and took the time to make a post on social media and spoke to Thurrock Nub News about the way he felt.

The care and hospital services frequently come in for criticism – more often than not with some justification – but Ian wanted to show the other side of the coin and offer praise where it is due.

Ian, from Horndon on the Hill, says: "I fear my words will not adequately convey my sentiments so forgive me.

"As we all know, people will generally be very quick to complain or criticise, but oh so slow to congratulate or thank for a job well done.

"This is not one of those times.

"To the ambulance men and women, doctors and nurses at Basildon hospital, the carers at Kynoch Court, Piggs Corner and lately Bluebell Court in Grays. The kindness and level of care you have provided over a 14 year period has been nothing short of excellent.

"And so it is with hope that as many of these dedicated people who have helped my mother see this and understand the level of my admiration and gratitude.

"On behalf of my mum Sheila, my daughter Victoria and myself, we hope you had a nice Christmas and have a very happy new year."

Earlier this year the care and love shown at Bluebell Court was highlighted in a film report following the death of another of their residents, Emily Meacher. Staff at Bluebell said farewell to her with a moving balloon tribute.
