ROADSIDE memorials placed after fatalities in Thurrock are to be removed by the borough council after senior members decided to implement a policy first laid down several years ago but rarely carried out.

At the recent meeting of the borough's cabinet councillors considered a report from Cllr Andrew Jefferies, the portfolio holder for environment, togather with his Conservative colleague Cllr Ban Maney who has responsibilities for highways.

Lyn Carpenter has presided over a regime of secrecy at Thurrock Council

THURROCK Council's chief executive has landed a non executive directorship with the College of Policing, a professional body for everyone working across policing in the UK.

As a non executive director Lyn Carpenter will be entitled to earn between £250 and £300 a day while engaged in work for the college. She is expected to work at least two days a month.

Joycelyn Redsell, chairman of the authority's cleaner, greener, safer scrutiny committee said new civic centre offices, which have yet to open, must be made safe for councillors in the wake of the death of Southend West MP Sir David Amess and her own experience.
