A SECOND attempt is being made to win planning permission for a new home to to built adjacent to an existing property in South Ockendon.

The previous bid for a two-storey house with two bedrooms was rejected on the ground that it harmed to the character and appearance of the locality – despite the fact that a number of similar extensions and new building have been permitted on the circular development on Mollands Lane.

WHIlLE some residents have taken to social media and made direct contact with Nub News to tell of their plight, Thurrock Council finally responded with a statement late last night (Sunday, 26 December) and says it has been taking action in the wake of yesterday's fire at Lionel Oxley House in Grays.

The response from the council, which was received at 9.49pm just over an hour after Nub News contacted housing portfolio holder Luke Spillman and local ward councillors - who had claimed they were not being told what was happening - contacted council CEO Lyn Carpenter, details action by the authority.

WARD councillors in Grays have demanded answers from Thurrock Council in the wake of this morning's (Sunday, 26 December) fire at a tower block in their Riverside ward.

Cllrs Martin Kerin, Tony Fish and Jane Pothecary says they have been kept in the dark about the council's response to the situation which saw five crews of firefighters attend the blaze in the bins area of Lionel Oxley House.

A THURROCK councillor says he is so shocked and angered by the borough council's lack of responsibility and penny-pinching attitude that he is going to pay for repairs to a Tilbury grandmother's home out of his own pocket.

Earlier this month Thurrock Nub New reported on the failure of Thurrock Council, and its insurers – Zurich – to take responsibility for damage caused by contractors to the porch of Susan Nelder, a grandmother who lives on Brennan Road in the town.

A SHIPPING company and DP World's London Gateway port have 'made the year' of a Thurrock youngster with a fascination and love for trucks.

Five-year-old Jamie Claydon from Stanford-le-Hope loves nothing better than having a walk with his dad Lloyd along roads close to the port and he often waved and gave the thumbs up to passing drivers, many of whom began to recognise him and gave him a wave of a blast on their horns as they went past.
