Tournament marks first anniversary of death of football stalwart Julien

A WALKING football tournament that pays tribute to the memory of a popular borough sportsman and fan of Grays Athletic takes place on Friday (22 July).

The Julien Wiseman Memorial Tournament marks the first anniversary of the death of popular Thurrock man and Grays fan Julien who died in a road accident in Scotland.

Julien was a driving force in the establishment of walking football in Thurrock, which has now become well established at the Lakeside sports ground.

And there, on Friday, two teams from Grays Athletic Walking FC , one from Concord Rangers and another from Billericay teams taking part one from Concord WFC will be playing in a tournament that starts at 10.30pm.

A member of the organising team from Grays and its treasurer, Rod Oakley, said: "Every team will play four games of 10 minutes each way.

"We are looking forward to the day and the social activities as well as the football which will include a meal after the matches.,

"This is for our Jules as it's a year since he died so I'm sure everyone will be there even if you have an injury or are not fit still come and support the cause as be good to see you all. Also can you please kindly bring a raffle prize it doesn't matter how big or small it all helps the day."
