CONSERVATIVE Jackie Doyle-Price won Thurrock by a huge majority of 11,482, just two years after winning by just 345 votes.

She received 27,795 votes with almost 60 per cent of eligible borough residents voting.

Moments after the win was announced she said: "Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be standing here with a win like this. I must thank my absolutely fantastic team, I am so proud to be your MP."

Labour's John Kent gave a frank assessment of a disappointing night for his party but promised they would be back.

The independent candidate James Woollard and the Green Party's Ben Harvey thanked their supporters and council staff, Lib Dem candidate Stewart Stone, who got 1,510 votes, didn't bother to turn up.
