THURROCK Council is going to increase the regularity of blue bin recycling collections over the festive period.

Additional recycling collections will take place with blue bins being collected weekly between 18 December and 6 January.

There will be some changes to collections days because of the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.

Between Tuesday, 26 December and Friday, 5 January collections will be one day later than usual, with additional collections taking place on Saturday 30 December and 6 January.

Collections that would usually happen on Monday, 25 December will take place two days earlier on Saturday, 23 December.

Brown bin collections will be paused until Monday, 5 February.

The council has also advised that real Christmas trees must not be put green/grey or blue bins. The council has arranged a free collection service for Thurrock households, but you must book your collection in advance as only a limited number of collection slots will be available.

You can book a collection using the council's collection service for real Christmas trees.

Bookings will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The date you can choose for collection may depend on availability and the area in which you live.

You can also dispose of your real Christmas tree by either:

·        taking it to Linford Household Waste and Recycling Centre

·        cutting it up and putting it in your brown bin so the lid closes and the council will empty it when brown bin collections resume during the week beginning Monday, 5 February.
