East Thurrock concentrate their thoughts moments after the end of today's game.

IT was a good day for Thurrock's non-League sides this afternoon as three out of the four teams won, with just tilbury missing out and having to settle for a high-scoring away draw.

It would be difficult to decide the result of the day, with east Thurrock Unite beating Merstham to keep their hopes of Isthmian Premier survival well and truly alive – while Aveley cemented their position as Isthmian North tile favourites with an emphatic away win.

EXPECTATIONS and hope will be running high in equal measure at Rookery Hill in Corringham this afternoon as East Thurrock United bid to continue their bid for a great escape.

The Rocks go into today's Isthmian Premier match against fellow strugglers Merstham on the back of successive victories. Half an eye at Rookery hill will be on the clash between fellow relegation rivals Leatherhead and Cray, who play each other – which means that even with a win Rocks won't get out of the bottom three but three points would set them up for survival with four matches left after today.

Cllr Martin Kerin has bemoaned another missed deadline on the A13.

ON the day after the latest deadline passed for the completion of Thurrock Council's much-ridiculed A13 widening project, an opposition councillor has slammed the 'incompetence' of the ruling Conservative group and its inability to manage infrastructure projects.

In a statement issued today (April 1), Cllr Martin Kerin says: "Today is April Fool's Day - an appropriate day for this joke of an administration currently running Thurrock Council! If someone had to said to me back in October 2019 that the A13 widening still wouldn't be completed by March 2022, even I wouldn't have believed that Thurrock's Conservatives could be that incompetent.
