A LAST minute goal lifted spirits and East Thurrock United off the foot of the Isthmian Premier Division this afternoon (Saturday, 26 February).

And the winning strike from Johnny Ashman against Carshalton Athletic was even more special as it came when the Rocks had been reduced to ten men following the dismissal of Oli Coker who picked up yellow cards in quick succession in the 84th minute.

Latest covid statistics in Thurrock.

IN his latest message to residents Thurrock Council leader Cllr Rob Gledhill has spoken about the success in beating back the impact of covid-19 but warns borough people not to be complacent.

Cllr Gledhill says: "We are now in a position where the rules and restrictions around coronavirus have been lifted, however the virus is still with us and now it is up to all of us to take responsibility in making our own decisions about how to best manage the risks of COVID-19, just as we do every year with seasonal flu.

GRAYS Athletic's hopes of improving their hopes of promotion from the Isthmian North with a win at struggling Hullbridge Sports today have been dashed by the legacy of recent storms which damaged Sports ground to an extent it has been deemed unsafe and so the fixture was called off.

No such problems for third-placed Aveley who go into their home match with sixth-placed Dereham on the back of an 11 match unbeaten run.

FOLLOWING a vitriolic condemnation of Thurrock Council's opposition Labour group by senior Conservatives on the authority's ruling group who damned a decision by Labour councillors to vote against council tax rises, one of Labour's councillors has responded with stinging criticism of her own.

On Wednesday (24 February) Labour members voted en masse against the Conservatives' plans on council tax for 2022/23, saying they did not believe it was right to increase charges in the light of recent inflationary rises.

A JOINT operation between Thurrock Council and Essex Police to stamp out the illicit use of un-let council garages to store nuisance vehicles today (Friday, 26 February) saw a further 76 garages searched, this time in the South Ockendon and Aveley area.

Officers from the council's enforcement and housing teams and Essex Police joined forces to search garages and make sure they are not being unlawfully used to store anything including stolen vehicles or quad and motorbikes used by anti-social off-road motorcyclists.

MEMBERS of Grays Parish Church have met with their bishop to discuss damage to the St Peter & St Paul's building caused by recent storms.

During the most severe weather high winds lifted the roof up and the north side came down on top of the south side leaving the south side damaged and in danger of collapse.
