THURROCK Council leader Cllr Rob Gledhill has once again highlighted the large numbers of covid infections in the borough and has called on employers to be stringent in ensuring that workers follow guidance to be tested.

In his weekly address to residents, Cllr Gledhill says: "It is your individual actions that add together to make all the difference to tackling this global pandemic - that is no different now than it was in March 2020 when we first took action.

THE future for one of the iconic sites earmarked as key to Thurrock's regeneration has been put in the hands of an award-winning group of artists and a company described as a cultural consultancy.

The 14-acre High House Production Park at Purfleet, which hosts the Royal Opera House's workshops where sets and scenery for productions at Covent Garden and other major theatres are created, 39 self-contained studios and four work/live units opened in 2013, the Backstage Centre - which is a purpose-built production, rehearsal and training facility – and a number of adapted listed buildings that offer function facilities including hire as wedding and conference venues and a café, leisure area and gardens.

Cllr Daniel Chukwu has echoed residents' concerns about a proposed new development of 37 homes.

A WAVE of opposition from residents to a planning application for 37 new homes in Chadwell St Mary have been backed by local ward councillor who believes approval should be denied unless significant issues are overcome.

Thurrock Nub News reported last month on plans for the new development adjacent to St John's Road and there has been lots of opposition to the scheme via Thurrock Council's planning portal.

AVELEY retained top spot in the Isthmian North thanks to a 2-0 win at fellow promotion-chasing Hashtag United on Saturday, while Grays Athletic also managed a victory that elevates them back into the play-off zone.

The Millers made the short trip to the Len Salmon Stadium in Pitsea where a crowd of 422 included a large number of travelling fans.

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a property in Thurrock earlier today (Friday, 7 January), when passers-by alerted a resident to a fire at the rear of their home.

Crews were called to Blackshots Lane, Grays, at 11.14am, after a young male was made aware of a fire at the back of his home by passers-by.
