DESPITE dozens of reported cases of damp and mould having a huge impact on the quality of lives of Thurrock Council tenants – including young children – councillors will hear a report from officers that downplays the problem in the borough.

Tuesday evening's (22 June) meeting of the housing and overview scrutiny committee will hear a report from officers, led by the council's Corporate Director of Adults, Housing and Health Ian Wake, that media has been scaremongering!

Roses were cast on the Thames so they could float down the river past Tilbury!

THE House of Lords recently played host to an event organised by Thurrock BME, the organisation that represents the black minority ethnic community in the borough, to mark the end of October as Black History Month.

It took place in the palace of Westminster on Monday, 30 October and was amid the groundswell of love and grief following the murder of David Amess MP (who would have been a guest speaker).

A THURROCK family has told the story of the last, precious few months of a much-loved borough man's life as a way of highlighting the work carried out on behalf of the local community by St Luke's Hospice.

St Luke's, which will launch its new hospice in Thurrock in the coming months, has just launched its annual 'Light up a Life' appeal, giving people the chance to come together to remember a loved one, while also supporting the hospice's work with a donation in their name.

THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle-Price was one of just 13 Conservative MPs who voted today (Wednesday, 3 November) to enforce the immediate suspension of Conservative Owen Paterson has avoided punishment for now as the government ordered its MPs to back a review of standards investigations.

The vote on the suspension was taken after Parliamentary Standards Commissioner Kathryn Stone recommended Mr Paterson be suspended from the Commons for 30 days, after a damning report into his conduct by a committee of MPs.
