How Purfleet might look in the future.

AS planners of the regeneration scheme for Purfleet-on-Thames forge ahead with the project they have been marketing the scheme at an international conference as they bid to borrow the £1 billion needed to finance the project.

The regeneration of the town which will include the creation of up to 2,850 homes, a new town centre with shops and restaurants and a new railway station is expected to cost a total of £1.3 billion.

How the crematorium would have looked.

PLANNING officers have rejected an application for a crematorium, private hospital, GP Surgery and a specialist family care facility in Bulphan.

The proposal, which was not called in for consideration by councillors, was rejected because officers said it breached green belt guidelines and would create an isolated health-led community use at a site that is located in an unsustainable location, distant from community services, essential support facilities and a choice of transport modes.

THREE asylum-seeking children under the care of Thurrock Council are missing, a committee of councillors was due to be told.

In a report to the now-cancelled hidden and extreme harms prevention committee the council's strategic lead for looked after children and aftercare was due to tell councillors that the authority currently has 28 asylum-seeking children on its books – but it has lost track of three others.

Backpack led to crossing delays

POLICE responding to reports on an unattended backpack left on the QEII bridge just after midday prompted a closure of the crossing that caused significant delays during the early afternoon.

Statement from Ken police said: ""Shortly before midday on Tuesday, 19 October Kent Police received concerns about an unaccompanied backpack which had been located near the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.
