The Task Force meeting

HIGHWAYS England will not monitor noise and pollution on the planned Lower Thames Crossing once it is completed, it has been revealed.

Tim Wright, head of consents for Highways England, answered a stream of questions posed by Thurrock councillors on the Lower Thames Crossing Taskforce on Monday (16 August) and heard concerns on the impact of the project which could cost up to £8.2 billion.

A POPULAR venue in the east of the borough will be opening its doors to members of the NHS who will be able to enjoy a free night of entertainment – and some drinks – as the local community says thanks to key workers who helped through the Covid-19 pandemic.

The special celebration party of thanks will take place at East Thurrock Community Association on Saturday, 21 August from 7pm.

THURROCK Council is asking the advice of borough residents and businesses as it considers extending a public place protection order – which is primarily in place to stop car cruising and similar events which it believes are anti-social.

The order is currently in place for the West Thurrock area, including Lakeside, Chafford Hundred and South Stifford. It prevents people congregating in large numbers, participating in car racing, performing stunts in vehicles and otherwise acting in an anti-social manner.

ENFORCEMENT officers contracted by Thurrock Council to police the borough's streets and issue fines for littering, dog fouling and fly tipping look set to earn the private firm that employs them a bigger share of the fine.

The council is in the final year of a four year deal with controversial enforcement company Kingdom Security.

TWO men have been charged following an incident in Tilbury on Friday 13 August, which left a man with life-threatening injuries.

A statement from Essex Police today (Tuesday, 17 August) says: "We were called to reports of a fight involving a small group of people, who were all reported to have weapons, in Malta Road shortly before 5.05pm.

AN appeal and collection point aimed at helping quell the impact of domestic violence opened at a Thurrock store today..

A short ceremony marked the launch of the Love Grace collection event at the Co-op's Socketts Heath store in Grays. Staff at the store have been working with the family of murdered backpacker Grace Millane who was killed while travelling in New Zealand in December 2018.
