MORE than 500 people have now signed a petition calling on Thurrock Council to reconsider its proposed plans to close day centres for older people in the borough.
In particular the petition champions the cause of the day centre at Kynoch Court in Stanford-le-Hope in the wake of conflicting reports.

A FORMAL and full application for the new Orsett Heath Academy has now been submitted to Thurrock Council and there will be a significant impact on the playing fields at Blackshots.
And longer term, the development of the school site which will house 1,200 pupils, could even precipitate the closure and replacement of Blackshots leisure centre according to the applicants' long term plans for the site.
REFUGEES from Afghanistan could be set to be housed in Thurrock.
Details remain scarce but Thurrock Council has confirmed it has contacted the government offering its support for any resettlement initiative that is implemented.

A LORRY driver living in Tilbury has been charged following the seizure of cocaine and heroin worth £5.7 million.
Irish national and Tilbury resident, 64-year-old Robert Wilkin, was questioned by officers from the National Crime Agency after his lorry was stopped at the Coquelles Channel Tunnel terminal on 12 August.
MEMBERS and visitors to Bulphan WI were absolutely delighted to be back at the village hall for their August meeting, the first inside the hall since March 2020. They even burst into applause after the rousing rendition of Jerusalem at the end of the meeting after they had been entertained by Rev Dr Nicholas Henderson's talk on two of the Tudor queens.
That's not to say they haven't been busy over the past months.

A THURROCK grandmother is the latest to bemoan the secretive tactics of Thurrock Council's litter enforcement officers after she was fined £150 for reportedly dropping a cigarette butt in a store car park in Grays.
Jeanette Howard says she was in the Aldi and Poundstretcher store car park off London Road in Grays when she says her three year-old grandson sudden broke free and made a dash towards traffic.
