Cllr Barry Johnson has passed on his congratulations to borough youngsters who got their long-awaited results today

THURROCK's leading councillor with responsibility for education has passed on his congratulations o he borough's achieving young people on the day they got their A-level results.

The council reports that, despite challenges posed by the pandemic, Thurrock has seen pupils achieving excellent results this year with looked after children achieving especially well compared to other years.

Essex midwives

A £2 MILLION funding boost will see 41 extra maternity staff working at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

The funding will be used to recruit extra consultants and midwives, as well as to deliver training and will also help provide consistent one-to-one care for women in labour, and support high quality care across the trust's maternity units at Southend, Basildon and Broomfield hospitals, as well as two standalone birthing units in Braintree Community Hospital and St Peter's Hospital in Maldon.

Andrea Neville

AMONG students celebrating after the announcement today (Tuesday, 10 August) of A-level results at USP Palmer's College in Grays is 18-year-old Andrea Neville.

Andrea, from Grays, has undertaken A-level courses in English literature, sociology and history and has achieved an extended project qualification (EPQ) that has secured her place at the University of Oxford.

RESIDENTS concerned that persistent breaches of weight restrictions by lorries are being ignored have been told their concerns are now recognised and that an investigation into why so many vehicles are being seen flouting regulations is underway.

People who live on or close to London Road (A126) in West Thurrock, to the west of the junction with Devonshire Road and the east of the entrance to the Magnet Industrial estate, say their lives are blighted by the high number of HGS on the road breaking the 7.5 ton weight limit.
