THE head of William Edwards School on Grays has commended students for their GCSE achievements which the school, part of the South West Essex Community Education Trust, describes as 'fantastic'.

Due to the Government's decision to cancel examinations again as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, results were based on teacher assessment this year including students' performance in mock examinations and exam board assessments

YEAR 11 students at the Gateway Academy in Thurrock turned up to learn their GCSE outcomes today and most left in celebratory mood.

There were shrieks of happiness and relief as student after student opened their envelopes to see how well they have achieved.

IN the wake of the sale of assets belonging to Thurrock Council, including land earmarked for development and a house and shop in Grays, opposition councillors have questioned the authority's commitment to providing social housing in the borough.

Grays Riverside councillors Martin Kerin, Jane Pothecary and Tony Fish have issued a joint statement asking whether the Conservative administration at the helm of the council are committed to utilising brownfield sites and disused assets to build council housing in their ward.

AN application has been received by Thurrock Council to return a building in Grays to its former use as a church hall.

The building, on Foxton Road, South Stifford, was formerly a meeting place but became the base for a local businesses, which has since ceased trading, largely due to the impact of Covid-19.

THURROCK'S four non-League sides start their Isthmian League campaigns on Saturday (14 August).

East Thurrock United are the borough's senior side, playing in the Premier Division but Rocks fans will be aware the club's position is precarious. In the past two Covid-curtailed seasons the Rookery Hill side were trapped in the relegation zone, seemingly destined for the drop before the campaigns ended.
