COUNCILLORS in Thurrock will hear a detailed summary of the reasons behind significant flooding in the borough in January, which saw properties in the Mardyke Valley - including North Stifford and Bulphan - flooded and a number of properties and roads in Stanford-le-Hope left under water.

The main blame for the flooding - described in the report as 'a once in a generation event' is attributed to the volume of rain over preceding days which overwhelmed the established water courses and sluice gates at Purfleet and Mucking.

WOMEN who suffer a miscarriage while working for Thurrock Council will be entitled to a minimum of ten days paid leave – and possibly more at the discretion of their manager.

That was the outcome of a meeting of the council's general services committee tonight (Monday, 5 July) when senior members across the council's political spectrum were unanimous in backing the proposal.

Orsett Masonic Centre played host to an afternoon tea event

LOCAL hospital staff, schools and businesses took part in the nation's biggest tea break as part of the NHS Big Tea.

The national event, celebrating the 73rd anniversary of the NHS, saw staff across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust enjoy more than 10,000 cups of tea and biscuits, and was an opportunity to thank NHS staff who have done so much during the pandemic.

THE leader of Thurrock Council has condemned the vandalism that saw many ornaments, tributes and mementoes wrecked in Chadwell St Mary cemetery on Saturday night.

The trail of destruction has been widely condemned and there have been calls for the council to restart locking up its cemeteries overnight, but Cllr Rob Gledhill says the blame for Saturday's desecration does not lie with the authority.

Blake Brothers leading the way for Belhus CC u16s

THE Trevor Bailey Shield competition is quite prestigious in Essex youth cricket and Belhus CC U16s have got off to a flying start at North Stifford Village Green with a 134 run win against local rivals, Orsett & Thurrock CC on Sunday 4th July.

Belhus CC u16 coaches Ryan Wells and Daryl Millard had their charges at the ground early to prepare in advance of the arrival of their visitors from across town. This u16 game was not a fixture that the home team were prepared to countenance anything other than victory.

Danny Joyce scores 130 in the Essex Premier League for Belhus CC at Billericay

BELHUS CC 1st XI were away at strugglers, Billericay on Saturday 3rd July in what was a 'must win' Essex Premier league game for both clubs.

Belhus CC batted first with Captain Danny Joyce scoring 130 runs, not out. Joyce's personal contribution of 130 went towards a final total for Belhus of 223 runs from 54 overs. Captain Danny was ably assisted at the crease by Shane Barwick on 32 runs and Sahan Nanayakkara on 27 runs.
