THURROCK Council's portfolio holder for regeneration and senior directors of the authority want to scrap the authority's independent Lower Thames Cross Task Force Group - saying its work is no longer needed.

The news comes just days after a new chairman was elected for the group who delivered a significant 'shopping list' on behalf of borough residents and gave a damning indictment of proposals put forward by Highways England.

THE role of Tilbury and wider Thurrock in the development of the planned London Resort complex on the Swanscombe Peninsula is outlined in an application to the government for a Development Consent Order.

If the £3.5 billion scheme gets the green light a new landing stage will be created to the east of the Port of Tilbury which will open up the resort to visitors who arrive by car, train or coach in Thurrock.

PLANS for a new super council across south Essex run by an elected mayor have been welcomed by Thurrock Tories - but the scheme finds less favour elsewhere.

As revealed on Thurrock Nub News last week a scheme has been envisaged to link authorities along the north Thames riverside - including Brentwood - that would take control of major planning decisions and regeneration projects.

NURSES and frontline NHS workers have responded with shock and disappointment after being 'unjustifiably snubbed' by the government who have not included them in pay rises announced yesterday.

And a Thurrock woman, dubbed a heroine by local people for her work with colleagues at Basildon and Thurrock Hospital has described the news as a stab in the back - saying she and fellow care workers have been treated like 'cannon fodder'.
