IT has been revealed that Thurrock Council has already spent more than £150,000 on consultants, designers and engineers as it plots to demolish a large unoccupied council house and replace it with four smaller buildings.

The controversial scheme for Loewen Road in Chadwell St Mary has been ongoing for some time and has attracted a myriad of problems, not least opposition from local residents and those who believe that the council should be maintaining its larger family properties – not demolishing them.

FORMER secretary of state for transport Ruth Kelly has been appointed as the first chair of Thames Freeport, which includes DP World's London Gateway port, the Port of Tilbury and the Thames Enterprise Park in Thurrock.

She served as MP for Bolton West from 1997 until she stood down in 2010 and during that period, as well as being transport minister, she held the roles of secretary of state for communities and local government, education and skills and she was minister for women and equalities, as well as holding ministerial roles in HM Treasury.

WITH the dawn this morning of November and the imminent arrival of Guy Fawkes night Thurrock Council has offered a reminder of rules regarding fireworks.

SOUTH Essex's community radio station can now be heard across the region on DAB digital radio.

The station, which has been running for 11 years, is simulcasting its 97.8 FM service to the whole county.

PERMISSION has been granted by planning officers for the building of two new detached houses in the green belt in Fobbing.

MORE than a year after first raising the issue, councillors have repeated a call for an audit to take place to ensure that residents are safe on roads and pathways near their homes.

In August 2020 Thurrock Nub News reported on the appeal by Grays Riverside ward councillors Martin Kerin, Jane Pothecary and Tony Fish for Thurrock council to look into local lighting issues – with claims that significant areas of the ward were suffering faults in the lighting, with residents left in darkness.

THE new community cafe in Grays Town Park has been officially opened by borough Mayor Cllr Sue Shinnick.

It will now be open every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
