RESIDENTS of a Grays high rise block of flats were told to stay in their homes this afternoon (Tuesday, 26 October) while firefighters dealt with an incident on the seventh floor.
Seven crews from Grays, Orsett, Corringham, Basildon and Hawkwell, plus the aerial ladder platform from Southend attended a blaze in a flat caused when a heater caused clothes to catch alight just before 2pm.

ESSEX police officers who were doused in petrol while making an arrest have been awarded commendations for their bravery and dedication to duty by Chief Constable Ben-Julian Harrington.
PC Andrew Bird, PC Zhak Burrows, PC Matthew Cutts, PC Stephen Gunshon, PC Megan Rees, PC Mark Thomas and Chief Inspector Jonathan Baldwin had been deployed to apprehend a prolific offender in May 2019 when they were attacked.

RESIDENTS and motorists in the west of the borough face two more days of disruption as Essex and Suffolk Water carry out work on a water main on London Road.
Work began today on a stretch of road in South Stifford but there was little advance warning other than signs on the roadside warning of lengthy delays.

QUESTIONS will undoubtedly be being asked in Stanford-le-Hope this morning - and possibly other parts of the borough - after last evening's stormy weather caused flooding.
The problems in Stanford, were nowhere near the level of flooding in January in the town, but nevertheless some residents had to fight a battle to keep water out of their homes in the Ruskin Road and Runnymede Road areas after just a few hours of rain.

TWO borough non-League sides will be in action on Tuesday evening (26 October) and both will have to travel and desperately need a change of fortune.
East Thurrock United will be hoping to shake-off the hangover after their shocking 8-0 home defeat at the hands of Isthmian Premier leaders Enfield Town on Saturday when they go to Margate, who sit just a point below the play-off places in the table.

Sunday October 24th. Thurrock RFC u16s hosted Woodford. Irish music living legend, Van Morrison sings that "there will be days like this". This U16 rugby fixture was the solitary home fixture in the whole club of sixteen teams for Thurrock at the weekend. Conditions were perfect for rugby, it being a very pleasantly crisp and sundrenched Sunday morning at an abnormally quiet Oakfield.

A BID to increase the number of new homes on a site in Fobbing was quickly rejected by Thurrock councillors at their recent planning meeting, despite a please from the site's agent saying the homes were much needed and there has been significant local interest in them.
The site is on land which is part of properties known as Greenacre and Oakdene off the High Road in Fobbing.
EMERGENCY services reported no one was injured in spectacular crash that blocked a busy Thurrock road this morning (Monday, 25 October).
It happened just after 8.30am on Stifford Road in South Ockendon and involved a sports car.
