THERE was an emphatic victory for Tilbury in the FA Cup preliminary round this afternoon and a great result for fellow borough Isthmian North side Aveley who won away highly-fancied Maldon & Tiptree.

Tilbury travelled to North Greenford United and stormed into a 5-0 lead by half time with goals from Ola Ogunwamide, Brian Moses, Lewis Smith, Lee Burns and Josh Olsude.

JJ Margetts

A GRAYS man who hit two people with his car following an argument outside a pub in Orsett has been jailed for three-and-a-half years.

JJ Margetts had gone into The Foxhound pub in High Road on 26 October 2019, but following an earlier argument he was involved in, staff told him was barred and not allowed in. Three people inside the pub helped them get the 34-year-old to leave.

Plans for an apartment-based scheme in South Ockendon have not been welcomed by councillors who wanted 'family homes' - not just flats.

DESPITE having submitted a planning appeal against a previous refusal of its plans to build 92 homes on part of the site of the former Ford Plant in South Ockendon, developers St Modwen Homes have come back to the council with another plan for the same site.

This is despite them reporting that Thurrock Council is not contesting the appeal against an elected councillors' decision made in March.

A TRAVEL plan submitted more than five years after approval for the building of Corringham's new integrated medical centre says there is no expectation of parking or congestion problems around the new site.

Construction is now well underway for the centre on The Sorrells which is expected to open in the spring of 2022. It will be operated by North East London NHS Foundation Trust and is described in the travel plan just submitted to Thurrock Council as 'a partial replacement for the near-by Orsett Hospital which is closing and being replaced with several smaller medical centres such as the CIMC to serve Thurrock on a more local level'.

A NEW application has been submitted in a bid to bring a historic smithy back to life as a new home.

A previous application, for the property in Bulphan, was rejected in June by Thurrock Council's planning committee, which decreed it was harmful to the green belt.

A MAJORITY of Thurrock Council planning committee members voted to reject a controversial development set to bring 95 news homes to Corringham town centre as part of the redevelopment of the Springhouse Club.

Having had a formal vote to reject an officer recommendation to approve the scheme – and chair of the committee Cllr Tom Kelly had drafted reasons to refuse - members then backtracked and agreed to defer a decision to give the developers time to redraft parking proposals.

TO add to traffic congestion and diversions ion the area caused by the closure of the A13 between the Orsett Cock roundabout and the Manorway this weekend, Thurrock Council has announced another closure of a rural road tomorrow (Sunday, 22 August).

Residents in the villages of Orsett and Horndon have been particularly affected by the closure and are signposted as no go areas by the council will the A13 closures are in place, but residents have reported they are still being used by motorists as a diversion.
