The Rotary team

ON Saturday, 25 June, a team of walkers from Grays Thurrock Rotary Club supported the Challenging MND charity by walking in their sponsored 'Big Gibbo Walk', in Thorndon Country Park.

The charity's mission is to give those suffering from the debilitating motor neurone disease an opportunity to create amazing memories which will last with them forever and resonates with the club as one of our members is also an MND sufferer.

THURROCK'S 21,000 street lights could soon be managed remotely, saving £125,000 a year.

Thurrock Council is proposing to install a Highways Street lighting Central Management System, which will allow it to remotely control street lighting, detect faults and improve the efficiency of the system.

Pan fire in Purfleet

FIREFIGHTERS have issued a chip pan safety warning after a fire in Purfleet last night (Wednesday 30 June).

Fire crews were called to reports of a kitchen fire in Keswick Gardens, and at the time of the 999 call, the occupants were stil inside the property.

MOTORISTS and residents are remined that the A13 will be closed at the A128 (Orsett) junction this weekend for major works to demolish the old Orsett East Bridge.

The closures of the A13 start at 9pm on Friday, 2 July and remain until 1am on Monday, 5 July and traffic will be diverted via the exit and entry slip roads at the A128 (Orsett) junction.

A PROFESSIONAL theatre company will be touring school playgrounds across Thurrock in July, bringing fun to Thurrock's young people.

The Complete Commedia Company, which is based in the borough, will perform in playgrounds with their unique brand of comedic shenanigans, as a way of celebrating funding awards from both Arts Council England and Thurrock Council to produce a new touring production 'Schoolyard Scenarios'.

AFTER a number of technical issues with the broadcast for both councillors inside the meeting - and viewers attempting to watch via the council's You Tube channel - Thurrock Council's monthly meeting was adjourned after just 30 minutes in this evening.

After a 25 minute delay, the council's chief executive Lyn Carpenter then took centre stage and announced the meeting would be formally adjourned to a later date.

Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price, Michelle Primrose (group HR Manager from Forth Ports) and Paul Dale, Site and Asset Director from The Port of Tilbury at the Port's Recruitment Event with some of the thousands of products shipped through the port.

THE Port of Tilbury welcomed hundreds of people from the local area to their recruitment day on Tuesday, 29 June at the London Cruise Terminal.

The event was was designed to showcase the career and skills development opportunities the business has available across the port for adults of all ages. Attendees took the opportunity to speak to many people from across the port and some also tried their hand at moving containers using the digital simulator.

THURROCK Council has given the biggest hint yet that it plans to dispose of the Thameside Complex - and with it the borough's Thameside Theatre.

For weeks speculation has been growing that the council wants to shed many of its assets, including the theatre which is the performing home of many local adult and youth theatre and drama groups.
