DESPITE its much publicised and controversial investment strategy which Thurrock Council claim has pumped millions into its coffers, it is now seeking to save cash by charging the parents or carers of some special needs children for transport to school.

That is one of three cash-saving proposals put before councillors this evening's (Tuesday, 7 July) meeting of the council's children's services overview and scrutiny committee.

FEARS about anti-social behaviour and a concern that costs of the project will balloon came to the fore when councillors were asked to consider plans for a new rail underpass and public open space to improve Grays High Street.

Concerns were also expressed about the lack of quality surrounding local consultation and the lack of numbers of people the designers have engaged with.

THE company that operates most of Thurrock's community-based leisure centre has asked Thurrock Council for financial help as it faces possible collapse due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Thurrock Community Leisure (TCL)is part of the wider Impulse Leisure group but is a standalone charity in its own right. Its sister company within the Impulse Leisure brand is Adur Community Leisure (ACL) which operates five leisure centres in West Sussex and Impulse has announced it is in danger of closure.

AFTER just over a year of construction, Fort Road and the new Fort Road Bridge in Tilbury has reopened following the successful completion of works as part of the Tilbury2 port development and local communities have been thanked for their patience during the build.

First over the new bridge were the Tilbury2 community group who enjoyed an open top bus ride over the bridge to mark the official opening.
