BOROUGH residents are expected to be back outside their homes clapping this evening (Sunday, 5 June) when a commemorate 'Clap for Carers' takes place.

Through ten weeks of the coronavirus lockdown, Thursday evenings at 8pm brought a regular community get together when people left their homes briefly to applaud the NHS and it is hoped to repeat the exercise at 5pm today – the 72nd anniversary of the formation of the NHS.

PLANS have been submitted to Thurrock Council's planning department to 'clean up' an established brownfield site in the countryside between Orsett and Horndon on the Hill and build two new homes

Applicants say redevelopment of the site will tidy up the area's appearance and add to the openness of the local green belt. The site is at the junction of Orsett Road and Saffron Gardens.

OPPOSITION councillors and local residents have spoken of their disappointment at being denied another chance to debate the controversial redevelopment of Thurrock Council's Civic offices.

Recently the council's cabinet 'nodded through' a technicality allowing them to build over the remembrance garden in Mulberry Square adjacent to the current civic offices on New Road in Grays as part of a huge new extension to the offices.

SUPER Saturday dawned in Thurrock this morning and across the borough there were quues outside barber's shops and haridressers across the borough, big smiles as cafes opened their doors and preparations were getting underway at many bars for an opening later this morning.

The relaxation of lockdown has breathed new life into high street businesses which are now allowe to open after more than 100 days of lockdown.
