ESSEX Police's roads policing unit has reported a staggering rise in the number of people arrested for drug or drink driving last month.

Throughout December the force mounted a pre-Christmas campaign in a bid to stop people offending, but the message doesn't appear to have been heeded as the monthly toll of arrests in a record figure in a month, beating the previous tally by 65!

WARD councillors are set to join angry residents in stating their objection to a new homes plan in Grays, due to be debated by Thurrock Council's planning committee on Thursday (9 January).

YOUNGSTERS and families who are part of Thrrock's Open Door network joined Grays Beachcombers this morning (Sunday, 5 January) to take part in the monthly litter pick along the bank of the River Thames.

The pickers meet at Thurrock Yacht Club on the first Sunday of every month and are frequently joined by members of local companies and organisations.
