THREE men – including one from South Ockendon - have been jailed for a machete attack in Thurrock where they left a man for dead after a brutal assault. They were apprehended after a dramatic chase – captured on video by a police helicopter.

The victim, who is in his 20s, had been driving towards Arisdale Close, South Ockendon, at around 12.35am on 1 July 2020 when he was followed and then chased by a grey BMW X5.

The Swanscombe Peninsula.

LOCAL campaigners have welcomed news that the application for a development consent order for the planned multi-billion pound London Resort leisure and theme park complex on the Swanscombe Peninsula have been withdrawn.

Today (Tuesday, 29 March) was due to see the start of the hearing into the London Resort theme park application to the government but at the last minute it was pulled.

THREE years after the death of a young mother at Basildon Hospital – and in the wake of news this week that another mum-to-be has died, more criticism has been heaped on the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, which also runs Southend and Broomfield hospitals.

The last mission saw vital aid unloaded with the help of firefighters close to the Ukrainian border in Poland.

AN intrepid and committed Thurrock man and his pals who recently returned from a mercy mission to the Ukraine have upsized their ambitions and another trip with even more vital aid will be leaving the borough in early April.

Earlier this month Thurrock Nub News reported on the combined efforts and nationwide support for John Green and his friends who completed a journey right to the Polish border with war-torn Ukraine and ensured vital supplies were tracked through to the front line.

AFTER a year of being 'interim head' the appointment has been confirmed of Sally Feeney as the new headteacher of Stanford-le-Hope's Ortu Hassenbrook Academy after passing her National Professional Qualification in Headship.

Ms Feeney, who lives in the town, is well-known to generations of local students, having spent 31 years as a teacher, including a number of years as a French and German teacher at Corringham's Gable Hall School, where she became hed of languages.

EAST Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe has called for the Lower Thames Crossing to be reviewed by government ministers and issued a statement through his office questioning the validity of the multi-billion pound scheme.

The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) route was finalised in 2017, ploughing a route through Thurrock but Mr Metcalfe believes there is a strong concern that the proposed route will not do what it primarily set out to do - relieve congestion at the existing Dartford Crossing.
