Biker crackdown continues

POLICE officers in Thurrock have continued their campaign against rogue motorbike riders in the borough with another day of action.

A statement from the force says: "Officers from Thurrock's Community Policing Team (CPT) were out and about to tackle nuisance vehicle incidents across the district and utilised a drone to help locate vehicles and riders.

A LONG-awaited residential development in Tilbury is close to opening its 35 front doors to new residents.

After the idea for the project was first mooted under the authority's previous Labour administration, planning permission for the scheme on the site of a former open market was granted in June 2017 but it is only recently that keys to properties in Thurrock Council's Calcutta Road development, known as Beaconsfield Place, have been handed over by builders Kind & Co.

ORANGE skies and layers of dust filtering down from the clouds indicated a rare meteorological phenomenon in across the south of England this afternoon.

Thurrock-based photographer Rob Lay was one of many to capture images of the sand laden clouds that drifted over the borough for several hours, leaving a trail of dust in their wake.

Liz is a Games 'Hall of Famer'

FORMER Thurrock resident Elizabeth Hosford, a musician who became well-known in the borough community for her performances in the World Transplant Games, has been granted an honour to mark the recent International Women's Day.

Liz, a versatile musician as well as a determined an accomplished sport competitor who has won more than 130 medals across a range of sports, has been entered into the Games' Hall of Fame.

The looked-after youngsters require specialist care and costs a spiralling out of control prompting a senior councillor to say the situation is putting excessive pressure on Thurrock children's services.

TRANSPORT minister Wendy Morton has been shown how DP World's London Gateway port is keeping on track and has plans to increase the amount of traffic it shifts by rail.

The minister, who has particular responsibility for rail, visited the Thames port near Corringham at the invitation of East Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe who wanted her to see and hear first hand about the port's plans.
