THURROCK'S lead councillor for housing has praised the borough council's success in drastically reducing the number of homeless people it has had to house outside the borough.

Cllr Luke Spillman has hailed the success of the Council's new homelessness provision strategy which has seen out-of borough temporary housing placement fall by more than two thirds during the first half of the 2021/2022 municipal year.

THAMESIDE Theatre campaigners have been heartened this evening (Wednesday, 24 November) by news reported to Thurrock Council's full meeting that a decision on the future of the theatre will be delayed, but concern remains.

The council's cabinet was due to make a decision at its meeting on Wednesday, 8 December.

A SIGNIFICANT number of Conservative councillors chose to avoid a public protest and, despite a large security presence of more than 20 officers, entered tonight's meeting of Thurrock Council by the back door.

The subject of contention for the protesters is the council's controversial plan to close the Thameside complex and with, the much-loved Thameside Theatre.

Rob meets Rod - a meeting of football-loving veterans at St Clere's.

VETERAN Thurrock football referee Rob Bradley is well-used to most things when it comes to matches on the borough's playing fields, but even he admits to being a little star-struck last weekend.

Rob was due to referee a St Clere's youth team against against Stansted at the school grounds in Stanford-le-Hope but got there early and was watching some other matches when he found himself standing next to music icon Sir Rod Stewart.

Youngsters will play a big part in tonight's protest.

THURROCK councillors can expect to be lobbied by a vociferous but peaceful crowd of parents, children, theatre group members and other residents campaigning to save the Thameside Theatre when they attend tonight's (Wednesday, 24 November) meeting of the full council.

Because of continued problems with electrics in the Civic Offices on New Road in Grays, which the council continues to decline to comment on or give an explanation for the delay the meeting will be held at the adjacent South Essex College.

The problem of speeding vehicles on Branksome Avenue in Stanford-le-Hope has been a local concern for some time and some residents believe the danger has been exacerbated since average speed cameras were installed on the parallel Southend Road.
