Orsett remembered the fallen

Grays Town band provided the music at today's commemoration in Orsett.

TRIBUTE to the borough's fallen was paid at Orsett this morning when Chadwell Royal British Legion hosted its annual service at the village's war memorial.

The service was taken by Rev Sue Mann and among the dignitaries present were Thurrock mayor Cllr Sue Shinnick, East Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe and Lord Lieutenant of Essex Mrs Jennifer Tolhurst.

Purfleet pickers bag a lot!

PURFLEET-on-Thames residents were out in force this morning (Saturday, 13 November), tidying up the local community.

The 'Purfleet Pickers' managed to collect around a dozen bags of litter and debris, including old tyres during their morning's work.

THE clock is ticking towards the deadline for residents to make comments on a controversial planned new housing estate in the green belt at East Tilbury.

The application, news of which was first broken by Thurrock Nub News in May, is for a new 230 home housing estate in Linford - on land known as Gothards Field to the rear and east of the George and Dragon pub.

A CELEBRITY councillor in Thurrock has launched a campaign to honour a borough soldier who died in Afghanistan by naming a road after him.

Former pop star and TV reality show participant David van Day is calling on Thurrock Council to rename the B1335 (known as the Aveley bypass) after Lance Corporal Nicky Mason, who was killed in an explosion on 13 September 2008 while on active service with the Parachute Regiment in Helmand Province.

ST Thomas of Canterbury Church in Grays is looking forward to welcoming everyone to its 2021 Christmas Bazaar after last year's event was cancelled due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The annual event will be held on Sunday, 28 November from 12 noon to 3pm at St Thomas Hall, East Thurrock Road. There will be a lot of fun activities on offer for the whole family, including assorted food and drink plus raffle prizes.
