FOLLOWING a series of incidents of missile-throwing at local buses, and the threat that evening services may be permanently cancelled in some parts of the borough, police have announced they are going to out officers on some routes.

Ensign Buses have been particularly badly hit and last week the Purfleet-based company warned that 'one more incident' would see services pulled.

A WOMAN who was the victim of three romance fraudsters is urging people to be cautious when they're approached by strangers online after she lost more than £30,000 to men she believed were in love with her.

SUCCESSES and failures in Thurrock Council's continuing efforts to get homeless people off the streets of the borough are highlighted in a report to be presented to its Housing Overview and Scrutiny Committee next week.

The report by strategic lead on housing solutions, Ben Tovey, on Tuesday (21 September) shows his team provided emergency accommodation to 78 people and housed a further five directly into long term accommodation between March to June.

THURROCK Council is to expand plans to rollout lessons on budgeting and money management to pupils and adults entering their working lives.

Members of the council's Corporate Overview and Scrutiny Committee heard that after a pilot scheme in 2019, lessons were put on hold due to coronavirus, but plans are now being built on initial successes to expand the scheme to more young people and adults through Thurrock Adult Community College.

EAST Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe has today (Wednesday, 15 September) shown support for British food and farming on Back British Farming Day, recognising the crucial role farmers in his South Basildon and East Thurrock constituency play in producing food for the nation.

The National Farmers' Union (NFU) provided MPs with the emblem of the day - a wool and wheatsheaf pin badge – to enable them to join the celebration of British agriculture. Food and farming are key business sectors, worth more than £120 billion to the national economy and providing jobs for almost four million people.
