THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle-Price has delivered her updated verdict on the proposed Lower Thames Crossing and calls on Highways England to make concessions to mitigate the impact on Thurrock.

As the public consultation on the latest submissions by Highways England for the crossing that will drive a motorway through the heart of Thurrock's rural belt Ms Doyle-Price again expressed her dissatisfaction with the whole project.

MEMBERS of Thurrock Council's planning, transportation and regeneration overview and scrutiny committee will be told tomorrow what the authority plans to do to mediate further flooding in Thurrock following dramatic scenes earlier this year in the east, west and rural centre of the borough.

The authority's strategic transport manager, Navtej Tung, will deliver a report on January's flooding in the borough and outline how around £3 million won in grants from Environment Agency and DEFRA will be spent.

A THURROCK store has been thanked after honouring a local war veteran who has just celebrated his 96th birthday.

It's been a big week for Jim Gooding from Hoggarth Road, Grays. The president of the Grays Thurrock branch of the RAF Association flew as a rear gunner on Lancaster bombers during the war – and has spent much of the past few days making preparing for this coming weekend's Battle of Britain' commemoration which will take place at the Grays Memorial on Sunday (19 September).

A BOROUGH school has launched an internal investigation after it was reported that a teacher - who has now been suspended - has made derogatory comments about students in an assembly.

Almost immediately after the alleged incident at Ortu Gable Hall school, some pupils and many parents took to social media about it. It is reported words alleged to have been used towards the child by the teacher were 'chicken shits, retards and cowards'.
