THURROCK Mayor Cllr Sue Shinnick recently hosted a successful fundraising event at Stifford Hall Hotel for local good causes.

The afternoon tea event raised a total of £621.25 for Little Havens Hospice and Thurrock Over Fifties Forum (TOFF) – two of the Mayor's chosen charities.

Protestors are apprehended

THE latest attempts to block the M25 and access roads around the Dartford Crossing was foiled by police this morning (Monday, 20 September).

Officers from Essex and Kent police were on standby on either side of the river and when protestors attempted to block the motorway in Kent they were stopped.

A BOXING club in East Tilbury is hoping the local community will rally to its cause.

Smokeys Boxing club is based at East Tilbury Recreation Club on Princess Avenue and has proved a haven four many local youngsters and its impact on young lives was summed up by one mum who says: "My son was badly bullied and this club has made a huge difference to him and also to a lot of other children and is still doing so.

CIVIC dignitaries including Borough MP Jackie Doyle-Price and Mayor Cllr Sue Shinnick attended this morning's commemoration of the Battle of Britain at Grays High Street war memorial.

The service included the laying of wreaths and the Last Post. The service was led by Maureen McPherson, the Thurrock RAF Association branch padre.

EAST Thurrock United earned a second chance in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round thanks to an 86th minute equaliser from Ben Wyss who got on the end of the a Necati Gench cross to take the Rocks to a replay on Tuesday.

Rocks went into Saturday's tie at Rookery Hill with their resources stretched. An already lengthy injury list was compounded by the absence for family reasons of Rimmel Daniel and new signing Ola Ogunwamide is cup tied.
