THURROCK's closure-threatened Thameside Theatre played host to performances by the borough's young entertainers over the weekend to rapturous applause and welcome from parents, residents and music supporters to turned up in numbers.

It was a return to the 'good old days' as the Thameside Theatre reopened after the closure with the 16th Thameside Young Producers show - titled "Out of the Darkness into the Spotlight."

Mayor Cllr Sue Shinnick

MAYOR of Thurrock, Cllr Sue Shinnick, is seeking nominations for a special Certificate of Recognition which will be given to those in the borough who have gone above and beyond to help their community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cllr Shinnick said: "I want to recognise the incredible impact and generosity of individuals, community, voluntary and faith groups and local businesses who have helped support Thurrock residents during the pandemic. This help could be for lots of people or just one person.

AFTER hearing about scathing criticism from local media editors about Thurrock Council's communications policy and its confrontation with democracy, senior councillors have delayed approval of a new strategy and instructed officers to liaise with the press to ensure things in the borough improve.

Last week saw the outline of a new communications strategy for the council brought before two council committees.

SIX people remained in police custody this afternoon (Sunday, 12 September) as details emerged of yesterday's fracas in East Tilbury which saw an armed police response to a disturbance in the heart of the community.

Thurrock Nub News reported yesterday as the drama unfolded outside the Dickens Social Club and Boxing Club to the rear of Stanford House with armed officers and police dogs being rushed to scene.

The Council does show the 15 directly employed posts which, on 1 April 2020, carried salaries of more than £100,000. A number of consultant posts also carry six figure salaries.

THURROCK Council has declined to give details about its senior officers and contact details for them following a Freedom of Information request.

A request was made of the council to give details of members of staff, many of them earning more than £100,000 a year by a questioner, who wanted to know how the council is structured and who holds what responsibilities. And also a direct line of contact to them via email.
