THURROCK Council says it is going to crack down on persistent bad parkers in the borough – and is set to start lifting and impounding their vehicles.

Owners of vehicles with three or more unpaid fines could find themselves having to pay a hefty sum to reclaim their vehicle or see it sold by the council.

THE bravery of three police officers who tried to rescue a man from the burning wreckage of his car in Tilbury has been recognised with a leading award.

The traumatic incident, which unfortunately ended in the death of the driver despite the efforts of officers, was played out in July 2018 when the car crashed near the Port of Tilbury, striking a tree and catching fire with the driver trapped inside.

AN armed police response unit and a dog section team attended an incident in East Tilbury late this afternoon (Saturday, 11 September).

It happened outside the social club ( Dickens Bar) which was due to host an evening of boxing.

A CONFERENCE is underway in Grays this morning (Saturday, 11 September) highlighting the possibilities of a tram network in the borough.

It is taking place at South Essex College and was organised by Thames Gateway Tramlink, promoters of the KenEx tramway project.

THE organiser and supporters of the charity horse and dog show held recently on the Orsett Showground have hailed its success - and are celebrating raising more than £2,000 for good causes.

RESIDENTS and businesses on Southend Road in Grays, one the town's busiest access roads, have been advised they face significant disruption in coming months because of gas replacement work.

Gas networks operator Cadent has confirmed it plans to replace the gas main in the road and also the service pipes to each individual property.
