GRAYS Athletic hit seven goals today for a big victory that leaves them in second place in the Isthmian North.

They travelled to Basildon United this afternoon (Saturday, 28 August) and won 7-0 with a hat-trick apiece from Anointed Chukwu and David Knight, who included a spectacular strike from inside his own half in his haul. Danny Gould got the Blues' other goal.

Pub fun for a great cause

THE Woodlands Edge pub in South Ockendon will be holding a family fun day on Sunday (29 August) for the Macmillan cancer charity.

GRAYS Riverside Ward councillors Martin Kerin, Jane Pothecary and Tony Fish have today (Friday, 27 August) applied for Kilverts Field in Grays to be given 'Green Space Designation' in recognition of its importance to the local community.

In a joint statement, Cllrs Kerin, Pothecary and Fish said: "Kilverts Field, situated between the river and the Seabrooke Rise estate, is a treasured piece of green space which is well used by the local community.

Cllr James Halden signs a letter intended for all Homesteads residents

HOPES that a traffic calming scheme championed by ward councillors in Stanford-le-Hope would prove a hit with residents appear to be misplaced after the scheme has received what could at best be described as an initial lukewarm reaction.

This week Thurrock Council announced the results of an initial consultation with residents in the Homesteads ward about traffic issues on Branksome Avenue and adjoining roads.

THURROCK Council has defended the right of its traffic enforcement officers to park where they want, including on double yellow lines and other places where they would issue tickets to 'ordinary' motorists.

The authority was responding to Thurrock Nub News in the wake of a public condemnation of its officers after pictures on social media showed them parking on double yellow lines in Stifford Clays, while going about their business and issuing fines to motorists for doing the same thing.
