Cllrs Adam Carter and Sara Muldowney have welcomed additional trees planted on Orsett Heath.

CHADWELL St Marys councillors have welcomed the planting of new trees on Orsett Heath.

Both Labour's Sara Muldowney and Conservative Adam Carter joined Thurrock Council workers as the cherry trees were being planted. Cllr Muldowney said: "I was delighted today to join the council's horticultural team to plant some beautiful cherry trees on Orsett Heath. "The trees planted along the path across the Heath were funded by the Local Authority Treescape Fund after a successful bid by the council's tree officer. There will be more trees planted in Chadwell and on the Heath thanks to this bid." Cllr Carter welcomed this week's planting and indicated that more good news will be coming Chadwell's way on the horticultural front, saying: "I am compiling a list of areas I'm looking at for spring planting." At the suggestion of Chadwell Forum committee member Rob Lay, its chairman Peter Saunders has also made a successful bid for trees from the Woodland Trust. Some of these trees will also be planted on the Heath and some on the unadopted land behind Alexandra Close at the top end of Chadwell which the Community Forum have been improving. "It's wonderful to see so many trees being planted in Chadwell and around the borough and it's a great way to do our bit in Thurrock to combat climate change," added Cllr Muldowney.
