Andy Millard, who was tasked with completing Thurrock's long-awaited but still unfinished local plan, announced he was leaving his £135,000 a year post in January - one of a number of senior officers to leave the council this year.

EAST Thurrock United's hopes of an FA Cup upset ended with what eventually proved to be an emphatic defeat in Lincolnshire this afternoon and there was disappointment for two of the borough's other non-League sides.

THURROCK Council, in partnership with Essex Police, has made another pledge to crack down on nuisance bike riders in the borough.

The problem or rogue riders on quad bikes, scramblers and scooters is a long-running one in the borough, with problems reported right across the region from organised scrambling events to nuisance riders on parks and footpaths who have been involved with accidents where people, including schoolchildren, have been hit.

Police are urged to raise visibility to deter anti-social bike riders

THURROCK'S police commander Chief Inspector Richard Melton has conceded that anti-social behavior in some area of Thurrock is running out of control – with problems with illegal motorbikes a particular problem in areas including Chadwell St Mary, Tilbury and South Ockendon.

Essex Police and Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst and Ch Insp Melton were addressing tonight's full meeting of Thurrock Council, just over a week after they both appeared before a public forum in the borough when the same issues took centre stage.

THE proposed new Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has been named by Roger Hirst, the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex.

Rick Hylton is currently the Deputy Chief Fire Officer of the service and was selected by Mr Hirst and the interview panel from what was described as a strong field of national and international candidates from both fire and rescue services, public and private sector organisations.

STUDENTS at a Thurrock campus have stepped up the challenge and produced competition entries after being set the task of creating garemtns out of rubbish.

Now the UNI Centre South Essex has announced the winners of its 2021 Rubbish Costume Competition. The challenge, set by the BA (Hons) Costume Construction team based at the Thurrock and Purfleet campuses, gave entrants a chance to show off their innovation skills by creating a garment out of everyday household objects or rubbish.
