THURROCK Council could introduce "car clubs" as part of its new parking strategy, with rental cars set to be offered to residents on a short-term basis.

The council has released its draft parking policy strategy which will overhaul everything from parking charges, parking outside schools, pavement and HGV parking to reducing car use across the borough.

A LEADING Thurrock councillor has praised the authority for meeting an increased number of performance targets in the first three months of the civic year.

Electing to take the glass half full strategy and bigging up hitting three out of every four targets, rather than emphasising that almost one in four were missed, Cllr Jack Duffin who is the portfolio holder for central services, described the council's performance as 'fantastic.'

THURROCK Council's leading councillor for housing has given details of his plans to change the social housing structure of Thurrock, saying his scheme will save the borough millions and bring an end to housing misery for borough families currently being housed outside the area.

Cllr Luke Spillman, portfolio holder for housing, delivered a speech to tonight's meeting of the council's cabinet (Wednesday, 8 September) giving details of the council's new strategy which has seen them partner with a commercial company that is buying up properties and leasing them back to the authority.

A NUMBER of refugees from Afghanistan look set to be housed in Thurrock in the near future, but at no cost to the local council, it has been reported tonight (Wednesday, 8 September).

In his report to Thurrock Council's cabinet this evening, finance portfolio holder Cllr Shane Hebb said the borough was doing its bit to offer support to those displaced from their homeland following the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

A FUN day at a borough pub raised more than £1,200 for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

After the event the pub's management expressed thanks to all supporters, particularly event organiser Kelly Murray, saying: "Here at the Woodlands Edge we are shouting it from the roof top that Kelly Murray has been working incredibly hard behind the scenes organising and put together this Macmillan family fun day and what a fun day it was.

A BOROUGH couple and a local social club have come up with a show-stopping way to say thanks to all those who have been helping with Covid-19 vaccinations in recent months and weeks.

John and Mary Clark have organised a free evening of entertainment which will be staged at Stifford Clays Club later this month – starring Simon Rawlings as The Big Bopper, a role he played for six years in the West End production of The Buddy Holly Story at The Strand Theatre.
