CAMPAIGNERS opposed to the proposed Lower Thames crossing and motorway through the green heart of Thurrock have highlighted a radio interview by the man at the helm of the project in which he appears to concede the scheme is not fit for purpose and any benefits derived when a seven or eight year construction operation is concluded will be negated within a couple of decades.

Footpath closed for 24 hours

THURROCK Council have advised that a footpath in the west of the borough will be closed for just over 24 hours from late this evening (Saturday, 4 September).

St Clements footpath, adjacent to Porter Close and Hedley Avenue, West Thurrock, will be closed from 11pm tonight until 4am on Monday, 6 September will works take place.

BL bikers heading for Purfleet

PURFLEET'S Heritage and Military Centre will play host tomorrow (Sunday, 5 September) to the Royal British Legion Riders' Purfleet Bike Gathering.

The event from 10am to 3pm will feature the sale of food and drink and music all day and the bike riders will be showing their machines in competition for prizes which include 'Best Cruiser', 'Best Custom' and 'Best Sports Bike'.
