Red Ensign flies in Thurrock

THURROCK Council has raised the Red Ensign Flag at a special event in honour of Merchant Navy Day today (Friday 3 September).

The flag was raised outside the Civic Offices, Grays, to recognise past and present seafarers and celebrate the contribution that they have made throughout history.

A MAJOR industrial site close to the centre of Grays is up for sale and it is being proposed it could become host to as many as 1,000 new homes.

Titan Works is being touted at an asking price of more than £50 million. The former chalk quarry has been used as an industrial site for more than 50 years and currently involves the distribution of water purification chemicals.

PARENTS and their children mucked in this evening to get a village's football pitches fit to play on after a 'disgraceful' piece of grounds maintenance by Thurrock Council.

Linford Wanderers play and train on the recreation ground adjacent to Muckingford Road in the village but had to call off a training session for its many young players this evening (Thursday, 2 September) and instead everyone mucked in on a big clear up operation to remove huge mounds of grass cuttings.
