THURROCK Council Labour group leader Cllr John Kent has challenged his Conservative counterapart and council leader, Cllr Rob Gledhill, to publicly condemn the Prime Minister and his team for the drinks event held in the Downing Street garden in May 2020, as the country remained in lockdown.

In the letter, Cllr Kent said that "it is behaviour that needs calling out, no matter political persuasion", and cited the anger that residents of Thurrock are feeling as a result of the party.

Thames Crossing Action Group say the planned new tunnel and road through Thurrock is a smart motorway in everything but name.

THE Thurrock-based Thames Crossing Action Group (TCAG) has written to Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps, following his recent decision to pause the rollout of new 'smart motorways' and have called on him to extend this pause to the Lower Thames Crossing.

A smart motorway is a section of a motorway that uses traffic management methods to increase capacity and reduce congestion in particularly busy areas. These methods include using the hard shoulder as a running lane and using variable speed limits to control the flow of traffic.

A13 will be shut for weekend

TONIGHT (Friday, 14 January) will see the start of as weekend of disruption to traffic between the A13 Orsett Cock roundabout and the Manorway roundabout at Stanford-le-Hope.

From 9pm tonight to 5am, Monday, 17 January the A13 will be closed in both directions –between the A128 Orsett Cock junction and the A1014 Stanford-le-Hope junction.

Four vehicle crash blocked A13

A FOUR vehicle accident caused considerable congestion on the London-bound A13 carriageway between Basildon and Stanford-le-Hope this afternoon.

The crash happened around 4.20pm close to the Five Bells interchange at Fobbing.
