PUPILS at two primary schools in the east of the borough were visited by Thurrock Nub News editor Neil Speight today as part of their Aspirations week when youngsters are given information about career choices and opportunities and invited to quiz school visitors about their professions.

School visits such as this are a regular part of Nub News' role in the community and on a week celebrating inspiration and aspiration, Mr Speight was also delighted to share news that the news website has been honoured by being shortlisted in this year's national NewsAwards.

THERE is set to be major disruption this weekend in towns and villages adjacent to Thurrock Council's long-running A13 widening project as more major works will see the Orsett Cock roundabout shut from Friday evening to Monday morning.

The pivotal junction, which offers access to the east and westbound A13 as well as Grays, the A128 to Orsett and Horndon on the Hill and beyond, Stanford Road, Chadwell St Mary and the Bonners residential estate will be fully closed for construction, surfacing and re-alignment works.

A JOINT police and council operation to crack down on nuisance drivers in West Thurrock over the weekend saw five fines issued, one motorist reported for suspicion of careless driving and one person given a community resolution for possession of cannabis.

Teams from Thurrock Council and Essex Police worked together to prevent car cruisers from gathering in West Thurrock. They also worked with the Metropolitan Police to make sure that the event did not move on into a neighbouring London borough.
