OVER the past couple of days a combined operation to enforce a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) in West Thurrock has seen a number of success – including netting two drivers who were travelling at speeds in excess of 120mph.

Thurrock district's community police team and Thurrock council enforcement officers have worker alongside specialist police road policing officers to enforce the order around west Thurrock and the lakeside shopping and leisure area that tackles anti-social behaviour road users and cruisers.

THURROCK Council has flagged up two fines levied against drivers for breaching waste transport regulations – with borough council leader Cllr Rob Gledhill on hand to witness enforcement teams in action.

In an operation last week the council's environment enforcement officers and Essex Community Police Team carried out a successful operation to ensure that waste carriers were operating lawfully.

Cllr Rob Gledhill sees real opportunity for Thurrock from the proposed London Resort.

DESPITE recent reports that the proposed development is under threat because of wildlife issues, Thurrock Council has issued an upbeat proclamation about the proposed London Resort leisure park on the Swanscome Peninsula, opposite Thurrock in North Kent.

It was recently revealed that the resort project has suffered a significant setback as the BBC and ITV had scrapped their involvement in plans to build the UK's largest theme park over ongoing wildlife concerns.

PLANS have been flagged up to Thurrock Council for a new cement manufacturing site at the Port of Tilbury.

As a precursor to a possible planning application Aggregate Industries UK Ltd have asked the council if an Environmental Impact Assessment Scoping Opinion is required for the construction and operation of a manufacturing facility within the port boundary.

THE deaths of 39 Vietnamese whose bodies were discovered in a refrigerated lorry container in Thurrock might possibly have been avoided had authorities listened more seriously to warnings by residents in Orsett that a site in the borough was being used to traffic illegal immigrants.

At a hearing last week when one of the many people involved in the human trafficking operation from Europe to the UK came before a court for sentencing, it was disclosed that residents in Orsett had repeatedly raised concerns about Collingwood Farm, a site close to the Bonners estate and Orsett Golf Club.
